Modified Home Make Over to Benefit You can be just like Tye Pennington!!! Take a disabled adult child along with two caring parents and an 82 year old live-in Grandmother; compound the situation with a wheel chair, Grandma’s walker, two dogs and a virtual truck-load of medical supplies and WELCOME TO MY WORLD! Our family is one, under God, in very tight difficult quarters. In the face of adversity, our extended family has come to share a small amount of living space requiring careful maneuvering just to care for our adult, disabled daughter. Because of our 32 year olds life-long disability, frequently requiring round the clock care, we have centered our entire lives on the living room of our house. With a hospital air-bed (smack-dab in the center of the living room) being the primary “place of residence” of our daughter Carrieanne, Mom, Dad and Grandma, adjust their lifestyles to make do and to share the space with their precious daughter and granddaughter. Because of a very complex (and rare) birth disorder known as VATERS, Carrieanne has been confined to bed and/or a wheel chair for most of her adult life. Though it is sometimes hard to tell from looking at her, Carrieanne’s health remains very fragile. She has been on a ventilator twice, once for over 50 days and has been through 100+ minor surgeries. Her condition requires lots of medical equipment and frequent visits from medical care personnel, making it virtually impossible for her to be in any room other than the largest of our small, 7 room, ranch home in Dallas, TX. When she is able to get into her wheel chair, it is extremely difficult to navigate the space remaining after accommodating the medical supplies and equipment necessary for her care. We have some “space” (called an attached two-car garage) but with the expense associated with our daughter’s situation, we have no money to make a conversion of any kind. Carrieanne, a cheerful, educated, Christian, young lady has rarely known any sense of privacy. For her to have a room of her own that could offer easy access for emergency medical care when needed would be a true blessing from God. Carrieanne loves to entertain visitors and to occasionally go out for a trip to the mall with family and friends. She would REALLY like to get back into community college where she was an honor student, but whenever this chance arises, she must ask for everyone else to leave the center of the house (her room) so that she can have time alone to get ready. We adults certainly don’t mind sharing, but we do empathize for the lack of privacy of our daughter. We have gladly given of our time and floor space to share with our daughter, but it sure would be nice if Carrieanne could have a functional room of her very own. God Bless You,
